This 2019 Suhr Classic S Antique is an interesting case to say the least. It has been owned by two very good customer of our store. The first, bought this guitar as a home project to attempt their own relicing job. Whilst they've done an excellent job, it was not to their liking in the end, thus resulting in them trading it in toward something else from our shop.
Originally, being a Suhr Classic S Antique, the guitar would have featured some checking and mild relicing. As the finish is a light Nitro coat, it was very easy to strip back. The customer followed the model of most Fender Custom Shop Heavy Relic guitars in terms of placement and depth of relicing.
As you can see from the photos, this is consistent around the body, with the most significant wear being above the pickguard, the forearm cutaway and the belly cut. They also reliced the back of the neck, and did an excellent job - it feels quite smooth and easy to play. The guitar was also sealed with beeswax after having the coat stripped back, which has a pleasant and natural satin feel to it (the guitar also smells like beeswax which is not unpleasant).
There's not much else to describe that our photos can't, but all staff members at our shop agree that whilst it can be visually shocking to see an late model guitar so heavily modified, the guitar feels awesome and would be a great choice for any player who wants a vintage look, or who wants Suhr playability at a fraction of the cost. Comes with the original case and all bits & pieces!
The Classic S Antique features a 60’s C vintage medium neck profile with indian rosewood or maple fingerboard and V63 single coils. The Classic S Antique retains many of the original specifications of the Classic Antique including the SSCII hum cancelling system, nitrocellulose finish, and stainless steel frets. Proprietary Suhr locking tuners and the Gotoh 510 tremolo provides superior tuning stability.
