Introducing Powers Electric

DW Music is honoured to have been selected as an Australian dealer of Powers Electric; Master Guitar Designer Andy Powers' debut electric guitar. We have truly embraced delving into this masterful display of craftsmanship and innovation, and are now delighted to offer it to the good folk of Australia.

We were alongside the first in Australia to get hands on Andy's groundbreaking designs with Taylor guitars, recalling fondly the first time we were handed one of their V-Class braced acoustic guitars. In the years since, we have repeatedly witnessed Andy's visions come to life and flourish. As proud stockists of all Taylor Builder's Edition acoustic guitars since their inception, we have experienced first hand his furtherment of guitar design and voracious creativity.

Now, with Powers Electric, we stand at the forefront of the newest and most exciting innovation in Andy's career; a guitar that seeks to inspire the player as much as it has the creator.

We highly encourage you to read and explore not just the features of the A-Type Electric guitar, but the stories behind it, the inspirations that brought about its creation, and the many wonderful insights into the subcultures that it is born from. It is not just 'another cool guitar', it is so much more.

Andy Powers - Founder & CEO

Growing up in North County San Diego, Andy Powers was immersed in a cultural stew of surf, skateboarding, classic cars, hot rods, music, art and architectural design. With a keen interest in music at a young age, Andy Powers first tried building his own electric guitar at the age of seven, sparking a flame of passion that still burns strongly to this day. For many years Andy played and worked on guitars, which set him on a long path to becoming a professional luthier. 

Whilst now being renowned as the Master Guitar Designer for, and a co-owner of Taylor Guitars, a company famous for exceptional acoustic guitars, Andy has always maintained his interest in electric guitars. Andy’s wealth of guitar design experience, knowledge of tone and sound, decades of study and culmination of ideas finally presented Andy with an opportunity. The opportunity to finally create a guitar that was everything he conceptualised, combining a player's needs and the sound he desired. Andy wanted to create a guitar that is new and unique, while still appearing familiar by incorporating traditional elements of the culture he grew up in.

Something that shared in the inspirations of past makers but was made for tomorrow’s player.
