Offering the opportunity to practice in private and play whenever inspiration strikes without being disturbed or disturbing others, the Yamaha SILENT Piano is the perfect fit for the urban dweller, families with children learning, schools or institutions with practice rooms in close proximity, or those obsessively practicing at all hours.

A piano that outperforms its size from Yamaha's premium upright series, the YUS1 is the piano of choice for those limited on space who demand the highest quality possible.

On this page you will find a demo video of the YUS1, specially recorded in our showroom, and some more information regarding the features and construction methods unique to the YUS series and SILENT series pianos.

What is a SILENT piano?

The Yamaha SILENT piano is a feature that is fully integrated into an acoustic piano. By shifting the middle pedal, a mechanism called the “hammer shank stopper” is moved into place, stopping the hammer a few millimetres short of striking the string, thus muting the acoustic sound of the piano. The player can now hear themselves playing through headphones in superb digital reproduction. The skillfully designed sensor system captures and reproduces the subtlest of dynamics with stunning realism, all without affecting the acoustic touch of the piano in any way, granting you the convenience of a digital piano without sacrificing the authentic touch of a real acoustic.

Features

Through techniques such as Virtual Resonance Modelling and most of all Binaural Sampling, the digital piano samples found in SILENT pianos have been recorded in such a way that when heard through headphones give the authentic feeling that you are sitting in front of a grand piano. This makes the experience of playing with headphones in front of an acoustic piano far more natural that one might first expect!

Voices

Play and compose in any genre by exploring the 25 sounds available in the SILENT piano, including electric pianos, harpsichord, organ and strings.

Bluetooth

Now equipped with wireless Bluetooth, the SILENT piano can be connected wirelessly to the Yamaha Smart Pianist app, making navigation through the piano's features even easier via a smart device. The Midi and Line Outs also available, mean that the piano has all connectivity necessary for plugging into teaching apps, audio interfaces and notation software, making it the ultimate recording and compositional tool.

YUS1

Perhaps the best performing and most versatile 121cm upright piano in the world, the YUS1 takes the fundamentals of design found in the ever popular U1 model and elevates them to a new level of performance capability.

High Quality Spruce

Timbers for the all important soundboard of the YUS series pianos are selected from the top 10% of solid spruce wood available in Yamaha’s Kitami Mill.

Setup in Japan

In the Kakagawa factory in Japan, YUS series pianos are tuned, regulated and voiced approximately four times as much as the standard U series, ensuring each piano leaves the factory possessing the precise tonal qualities sought after by the Yamaha technicians.

High Grade Materials

Further to the above attention to detail, the YUS series pianos are also composed of a higher grade of materials (including Wurzen felt and Roslau strings)  all of which contribute to a richness and warmth of sound with a controlled brightness.

Action

As well as their dynamic sound, what truly separates the YUS series from its competition is the responsiveness and smoothness of the action (made entirely of natural components) gifting the player complete control over the instrument.
